How to Use your Online Account to Place Holds and Renew Items

Library members can access the library catalogue from home or work to renew books, place holds and review their library record. Instructions are given below.

How to Place a Hold Online

To place a hold on an item, you will be required to find the item using the Catalogue search.

  1. After locating the item you wish to place a hold on, make sure you are viewing a detailed display of the item.
  2. On the left hand side of the screen, there will be a button labelled "Place Hold".
  3. Click on it.
  4. At this point you will be prompted for your library card number and PIN, as well as the library you wish to pickup the item at once it becomes available.
  5. Your library card number is located on the back of your CBRL library card, under the bar code, and starts with the digits 211111. Type the full library card number into the appropriate text box, without spaces.
  6. Next type in your PIN number into the appropriate box. Your PIN number is the last 4 digits of your phone number.
  7. Finally select the library branch you wish to pick the hold up at once available.
  8. Click the "Place Hold" button to finish.

If the instructions were followed correctly, your hold has been placed, and the library will notify you by telephone when the item becomes available to be picked up.

If you encounter any problems while placing a hold online, please feel free to contact the library branch you wish to pick the item up at, and the staff will attempt to place the hold for you over the phone.

How to Renew Your Checked Out Items Online

To renew items you have checked out on your library card, first visit the Library catalogue login page.

  1. At this point you will be prompted for your library card number and PIN, as well as the library you wish to pickup the item at once it becomes available.
  2. Your library card number is located on the back of your CBRL library card, under the bar code, and starts with the digits 211111. Type the full library card number into the appropriate text box, without spaces.
  3. Next type in your PIN number into the appropriate box. Your PIN number is the last 4 digits of your phone number.
  4. Click on the button labelled "Display User Information" to login to your library card account.

If the instructions were followed correctly and no errors occurred, you should be presented with a listing of the current items out on your library card, and be able to renew them through the website.
