Computer Classes

The library recognizes that technology can play a very important role in the pursuit of life long learning. For this reason, the library is pleased to offer courses aimed to help individuals who may be unfamiliar with modern technology become more familiar and comfortable with it's use.

Classes at the Gates Lab

As of March 1, 2005, basic computer training and GED training at the Gates Lab have been suspended due to lack of funding for training staff. Program funding beyond this point is uncertain.

Beginner Email and Internet Classes

These classes are aimed towards adults or seniors who have little or no experience with browsing the web or using email.

For the Internet class, the basics of using a web browser, searching the web, saving items on the web, and using other services online are discussed. There is an hour long classroom style component, followed by an hour long hands on component using the computers and internet connection present in the library.

For the email class, individuals spend a two hour session setting up, logging into, and using a Yahoo email account. Sending, reading, deleting, and managing email is covered. Note: In order to register for the email class, you must complete the Internet class first.

These classes are arranged based on the availability of staff to teach them. To find out more information, and have your name put on a waiting list to be notified of the next available class when it is scheduled, please contact the library.
